Virtuous Ten Studio Beta 1

25 April 2012 - 11:27 PM

Virtuous Ten Studio

Virtuous Ten Studio (VTS) is the ultimate solution for the modification of android applications. This program allows you to manage entire Android projects within an easy to use and familiar environment.

The intended group of users covers anyone from a themer over ROM devs up to the smali godsknown for their awesome mods of existing apks. The modifcation of smali code is one of the biggest features in VTS. You can easily decompile, edit and recompile any apk or jar file.
However, the application is not limited to smali files. You can edit almost any file found inside an apk or jar.

VTS has been designed to run on Windows, has been in development for nearly a year and has gone through many stages of testing. We now feel that the it is mature enough to be released publicly.

What's Vaelek been up to lately?

19 April 2012 - 04:51 AM

I'm sure everyone has noticed there hasn't been any real development activity since VPGB. For those wondering what's up, the main reason is I need to get a dedicated machine setup for it. I'm currently dual booting my laptop and have ended up stuck in Windows for various things a lot. Since moving to AOSP, for the most part I'm dead in the water without Linux. The other part is it just takes so damn long to build it from source, depending on what I'm working on, it can take hours between making a change and being able to test that change. I just can't have my only machine tied up all the time for that. So basically my options are continue to work very slowly until I can get another box setup, or go back to Non-Sense until then. I will likely open a poll on that very topic soon.

So, what have I been doing? A few months back, I stumbled on a project in progress to create the ultimate APK editor. I sought out the person working on it to try and get in on testing it, and would up joining the project. We've added a lot of really cool stuff since then, and are actually shooting for a release in the next week. I'm typically a pretty modest guy, but a month from now, this will without a question be THE tool for modding. What's so special about it you ask?

Current features include:
  • Built in apk decomple/recompile
  • Optional built-in Java decompile
  • Capability for M10 editing
  • Quick access to push, logcat, adb shell
  • Syntax highlighting
  • Popup and standalone help-tips for all smali commands
  • Instantly jump to any method, class, field or branch target
  • Instantly see what lines reference a jump target
  • Choose apktool or framework version
  • Hover over hex references to see their name from public.xml and value from bools/strings/etc
  • Ability to set markers on lines and jump to next/prev marker
  • Global search/replace
  • Import from device

SOPA is dead

16 January 2012 - 03:40 PM

Quote

In a surprise move today, Representative Eric Cantor(R-VA) announced that he will stop all action on SOPA, effectively killing the bill. This move was most likely due to several things. One of those things is that SOPA and PIPA met huge online protest against the bills. Another reason would be that the White House threatened to veto the bill if it had passed. However, it isn't quite time yet to celebrate, as PIPA(the Senate's version of SOPA) is still up for consideration.

The online protests about the bill were surprising and large. They ranged anywhere from callng Representatives, companies, and senators to get them to change their mind, to actively moving domain's away from and targeting the business model of the companies that supported/lobbied for the bill. GoDaddy lost well over 100,000 domains in the space of about 10 days due to their involvement with these bills, along with other various targets. Reddit in particular has been influential in turning the tide against SOPA and PIPA, and is a good demonstration of how the Internet enables Democracy.

PIPA is less well known than SOPA, but the provisions are basicly the same. It still includes the same DNS blocking and censoring system that the original SOPA did, just without the SOPA name. There are around 40 co-sponsors of the bill in the Senate so far, with no word on how many senators support the bill in addition to that. There will most likely need to be 60 votes in the Senate in order to invoke cloture and end an almost guaranteed filibuster.

Site Renewal

31 December 2011 - 08:51 AM

I'll make this short, I'm conflicted about even posting this, but here goes...

So here's the deal... I've got about a week until the domain and hosting is up for renewal. Last year wasn't an issue, donations and ads covered the site fees without a problem. Those of you without ad-blockers may have noticed about a year ago now ads disappeared. Google, for reasons they refuse to disclose revoked my AdSense account. Along with that, with development slowing, donations for about the last 8 months have dropped to almost nothing. As always, donations are in no way required, and the perks for doing so are nothing special, as I am not selling anything here. I got another ad provider about a month ago, which so far has racked up $1.90.

Development has slowed, but has not stopped. I don't have anything ready for public testing yet, but have been working on ICS for a couple of weeks now. It is still my hope that I will be able to take this one base, and build it for both the OG, 3D, and the NS4G, possibly with more to follow after that, just to give everyone an idea of where things are headed and why nothing has moved forward with VPGB or the 3D RC2. GB is on the way out, and rather than put any more time into it, I'm getting a jump on the latest and greatest.

With all that said, even without the rom(s), there are a good number of folks here who have benefited greatly from these forums. No matter the outcome, hosting will be renewed, and the forums will not be going anywhere. But I want to ask that if you have been helped here, please consider making even a small donation. If roughly 40 people were to make even a $5 donation, the renewal fees would be covered for another year. With 2100 registered users and nearly 40,000 posts worth of activity, many people have made a home here even after moving on to other phones and carriers. No one is in any required to give anything, but should you so feel inclined, or if you have been meaning to but just not gotten around to it, now would be the time.

I may have created it, but VaelPak would be nothing without all of you.. So thanks for all of the support thus far and for listening. I'll keep doing what I do, you keep doing what you do, and here's to kicking some ass in 2012.
