Ok, I searched around for this in the forums and could not find exactly what I was looking for. Well, I did a factory reset/wipe and flashed a fresh version of the ROM and now I got it stable for a I want to do a backup now. I know how I've done a nandroid in the past but I would like to ask you all what is the proper way to do a backup? What do I need to wipe or do I wipe anything at all?

FYI: I'm doing all this because I found out the hard way that TB gets screwed up at times when restoring backups between ROMS. Phone has been acting crazy so I started from scratch and will not be restoring all my info from TB in a fresh ROM. I read Vals tidbits on that so I know what to do from now on.

Now; what is the proper method to perform a fresh backup in Amon Ra?

In Ra I usually wipe Dalvik, & cache, then backup everything except cache, & .android_secure folder when using a2sd. My 2ยข. :)

Swyped on my VaelPak'd Supersonic using Vaelpak app :-D

I don't usually do it, but it is perfectly fine to wipe caches prior to making a nand backup.. The first boot after restoring it will take slightly longer, but the backup itself will be a bit smaller. I too generally just go with the default backup options. I know AR makes you choose which partitions you want, if you don't have a copy elsewhere, I would be sure to include wimax in it. I also think sd-ext may not be checked by default which you would want if you are using an a2sd partition.

Ok then, sounds good. I usually wipe caches but wanted to make sure that was fine since I started fresh.

If you are using AR, then you can pick your partitions. If you're running A2SD, make sure to select SD-Ext. Do not select .android_secure and cache. Also, if you are running A2SD and have your dalvik on /cache, no need to wipe it. When you restore, you'll wipe your caches, then restore.

a quick question on the topic? why dont you backup android secure and cache? i've always selected every single option there is to backup except for ext because my card is not partitioned. and my backups always work flawlessly when i restore them

Because if you are in fact running a2sd on an ext3 partition, you should NEVER EVER have anything in the .android_secure folder, it should always be empty. I wipe cache & dalvik just so that if I do have to restore that bakup it starts with a clean cache & Dalvik cache, just my personal preference. Posted Image

It is my understanding that if you are using a2sd, then there is nothing in your .android_secure folder anyway. If you are not using a2sd, then it does contain files that you want to backup. You may want to let someone else confirm this info, but that is what I have gotten out of reading this forum myself.
