Just picked up a used EVO 3D and I can't wait to flash Vaelpak onto it.

Do I need to call sprint and activate it first? If yes, I would assume I should do all updates before flashing to Vaelpak. Is that necessary?

It's an Evo 3D hardware version 0002. Android Version 2.3.4 Sense Version 3.0.

Any tips or recommendations?

You can activate online via your account. Do Not update until you know what Hboot version you have. If you have 1.30 or 1.40 use Revolutionary to root, then your golden, anything after that then.....enjoy

Confirm S-on or S-off and your
Hboot version.
To do that do this first. Menu, settings applications and make sure fastboot is UNchecked. Then power off.

At the same time hold down the volume down button and the power button till you get a white screen and 3 skateboarding Androids on the bottom. At the top of the screen you will see

S-on or off
Hboot version ####

I have been looking in settings - applications and can't find fastboot anywhere.

Found out on another thread a battery pull will undo the fastboot for 1 cycle. (The fastboot option is in Power.)

picked up a 3d on craigslist yesterday. I'll be spending a good chunk of time tomorrow doing this too

Mine came with HBOOT 1.50 on it too. I take it this is not a good thing?

Well.. The only difference is your just going to have to fastboot recovery from a computer every time you want to flash a rom or restore a nand backup. And I suggest using an app called Flash Image GUI to flash kernels. Super easy! I highly suggest using the Anthrax kernel for you guys too...you'll be wowed!!

Am I wrong in thinking you can flash ROM's through the Flash Image GUI ?
